Bibione was the first European destination to obtain Environmental Registration in 2002, an international recognition that rewards commitment towards the environment and good quality of life. Since September 2012, the Environmental Management System has been extended to the entire municipal area.

Municipality of San Michele al Tagliamento: Tourist hub of Bibione
The Municipality of San Michele al Tagliamento – aware of the importance of protecting the environment for citizens and guests, has decided to implement an Environmental Management System in Bibione. This system is compliant with European Regulation 761 of 19 March 2001 EMAS, and is aimed at preserving the beauty of the area and the atmosphere of peace and quiet that the beach and the surrounding environment can offer its guests.
The Environmental Management System’s main goal is to prevent and reduce the environmental impacts related to the activities carried out in the area thanks to the collaboration of institutions, citizens, operators and tourists. Its secondary goal is continuous environmental improvement for Sustainable Development, the principles of Agenda XXI, in compliance with current environmental legislation, the needs and requests of citizens and tourists.

COMMITMENTS
• Development and promotion of sustainable tourism and contextual enhancement of the usability of the great environmental heritage of the territory.
• Sustainable management of the territory and mobility through the consolidation and rationalization of infrastructures, the implementation of green areas, the increase of the cycling network and connections by sea.
• Enhancement and recovery of the existing building heritage in historic centers and agricultural areas and revitalization of the urban centers of the territory.
• Attention to hydraulic safety and the water cycle, with a focus on risk reduction for the effective implementation of planning tools.
